ExxonMobil advanced technology berry case study

From plastic waste to valuable food packaging

ExxonMobil has completed the first commercial sale of certified circular polymers using its Exxtend™ technology for advanced recycling of plastic waste. The collaboration with Berry Global, a leading provider of innovative packaging and engineered products, used certified circular ExxonMobil PP leveraging ExxonMobil’s Exxtend technology to manufacture food grade containers.

Berry Global will incorporate ISCC PLUS certified polymers across food and beverage applications.

"We have ambitious sustainable packaging goals that include achieving 30 percent circular content across our fast-moving consumer goods packaging by 2030," said Tarun Manroa, chief strategy officer of Berry Global. "Advanced recycling can help our customers meet their sustainability goals and accelerate the move to a more circular economy. Collaboration across the value chain is critical to achieving this.

Let’s talk about how we can support your sustainability goals

What makes advanced recycling different?

  • Enables a broader range of plastic products to be recycled, including dirty plastics with food contact, with a lot less sorting and cleaning than is needed with mechanical recycling
  • Increases the number of times a plastic material can be recycled without losing performance and quality
