Consumer goods

Consumer goods are more than just objects of desire; they make modern living possible. In the developed world, people have come to rely on consumer goods in almost every facet of their life – at home, at work and at play.

The growing global population and an emerging middle class in developing countries will drive demand for consumer goods as they seek the comfort and convenience of consumer goods. In meeting this demand, manufacturers of consumer goods need to balance a number of trends, including improved performance, design evolution, speed to market, enhanced reliability and safety, energy efficiency, end of life disposal, recycling, and lower costs.

Collaborating with customers, designers and across the value chain including trade associations, such as the American Chemistry Council and PlasticsEurope, we are committed to helping the industry develop high-performance, sustainable consumer goods. Taking a life cycle assessment (LCA) approach, our products are being used to develop solutions that help manufacture a broad range of consumer goods.

Solutions include:

  • our polypropylene resins used in appliances. According to a study, polypropylene resins manufacture results in lower energy consumption, GHG emissions and waste generated as compared to general purpose polystyrene (GPPS), high impact polystyrene (HIPS) and acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) (Franklin Associates for The American Chemistry Council)
  • ergonomically designed, durable soft-touch grips made with Santoprene™ thermoplastic vulcanizate (TPV) for power tools, kitchen and garden tools that are more comfortable to use
  • strong, durable toys, sporting goods and leisure products
  • reliable and efficient power supplies
  • small, light energy-efficient electronic products
  • lightweight and durable large and small appliances

Our performance materials are enabling the manufacture of high-quality consumer goods, from appliances and electronics to sporting goods and toys, household goods and power tools to personal care and hygiene products.
