1. Initial contact
Our personnel will visit your site to explain, on a non-confidential basis, the key features and advantages of our different technologies that are available for license. Following this initial meeting, depending on your needs, a technology-specific confidentiality agreement will be prepared for your review.

2. Detailed yield estimates
After the execution of a confidentiality agreement, ExxonMobil technical experts will prepare detailed yield estimates based on the use of our technologies and our proprietary catalysts with your specific feedstocks and unit operating constraints. This information will illustrate the unique advantages that our technologies can bring to your facility. With these yield estimates, you will be able to evaluate the economics of the proposed project before moving to the next stage.

3. Feasibility study
ExxonMobil will work closely with you to define the scope of a project based on your needs for higher capacity, improved efficiency or higher purity; and will ensure that the technologies are employed in their optimal configuration within your plant.

4. Disclosures
We will provide you with a formal licensing proposal, based on the results of the feasibility study for your plant, including sufficient technical and financial data to allow you to make an informed decision.

5. License negotiation
ExxonMobil offers a non-exclusive, non-transferable right to utilize specific technologies and produce the specified products at your site. All representations, warranties or guarantees associated with our technologies and future licensing services will be contained in these agreements. ExxonMobil proprietary catalysts for use in the licensed technologies are available from ExxonMobil Catalyst Technologies LLC under a separate agreement.

6. Technology transfer, start-up and regeneration support
As part of our Xylenes Licensing Services, ExxonMobil Chemical provides:

  • process and technology operating guide
  • monitoring of catalyst loading
  • personnel training for safe and efficient operation
  • start-up support
  • regeneration support

7. Technology-improvement exchange
After start-up, we help our licensees maintain optimum performance through:

  • continuous access to improvements to the licensed technology
  • quarterly unit performance monitoring reports
  • unit debottlenecking studies
  • pilot plant tests and laboratory analyses
