Food and beverage containers

Food and beverage containers, whether for single-use or multi-use, require airtight seals to keep food fresh as well as preserve taste and aromas. Vistamaxx™ propylene-based elastomer (PBE) blended with polypropylene (PP) can offer a cost-effective packaging solution that helps achieve that.

Vistamaxx PBE blended with PP can offer excellent impact performance that helps keep food fresh and protected, even at temperatures as low as -20°C (-4°F). In addition, it can provide flexible packaging closures with long-lasting living hinges that show minimal stress whitening. Plus, it is approved internationally for food contact applications and does not require prequalification.

Vistamaxx PBE can also allow thin-walled injection molding that can lead to lower packaging weight without compromising strength.

Reusable food containers
Reusable food containers that have airtight seals, high impact performance even at low temperatures, and good overall appearance are usually made with homopolymer polypropylene (hPP) materials. But with hPP, it is often difficult to obtain the right balance between these properties. Using random copolymer polypropylene (RCP) as an alternative improves the flexibility and clarity of the container, but fails to provide adequate impact performance.

Using Vistamaxx 6202 PBE at 5 to 10% in RCP can:

  • Increase the container’s flexibility for better airtight seals
  • Improve impact performance for reduced breakage
  • Maintain RCP transparency for an excellent overall appearance
  • Enable a living hinge design which shows minimal stress whitening or cracking
  • Reduce product development time as it is internationally approved for food contact applications
  • Enhance the product at low cost (dry blending)
