Aromatics: Olgone

High Performance Process for Aromatics Treatment
A high-performance, highly stable catalyst is the heart of the new Olgone process. This new process is designed to extend the cycle length of existing clay treaters, which will drastically reduce the amount of spent clay that is generated. The outstanding performance of the Olgone process can lead to significant operating cost savings as well as provide debottleneck opportunities. Olgone (sm) services provide full support for licensees from initial consultation through technology transfer and on-going improvements.

  • Long operating cycles & reduced solid waste
  • Cost savings: retrofit or grassroots
  • A simple fixed bed process

Long Operating Cycles & Reduced Solid Waste
Unlike traditional clay treating processes, the Olgone process uses proprietary catalyst to achieve cycle lengths 4 to 6 times that of clay. This means drastically reduced generation of spent clay. Our award-winning Olgone technology reduced clay waste in one of our own facilities by 85% per year.

Cost Savings: Retrofit or Grassroots
The long operating cycles of the Olgone process can translate into significant cost savings. Fewer treater change-outs results in significantly lower clay costs  In some cases, Olgone's significantly longer cycle length can allow a producer who is limited by clay treatment capacity to avoid installing additional clay treaters altogether. In grassroots applications, treater vessels can be smaller, thereby reducing capital costs. Other benefits include:
  • Better Downstream Protection - Longer cycles reduce the risk of exceeding downstream unit Bromine Index (BI) specifications and potential for resultant damage to sensitive catalysts and molecular sieves.
  • Safety: Olgone reduces the frequency of treater loading and unloading by virtue of its long operating cycles. Clay removal and replacement are labor intensive and can expose the operator to safety and environmental risks. Olgone Technology reduces change-outs and the associated risks by 75-85%

A Simple Fixed Bed Process
The following process flow diagram shows where Olgone would be applied in a typical aromatics plant. The Olgone process, like clay treating, generates some heavy materials that must be removed via fractionation. As a result, it is installed upstream of fraction so that these byproducts can be removed from the process. Olgone is a simple "drop-in" replacement for existing clay treaters.  Operation is virtually identical to the clay it replaces. The only significant difference is Olgone's exceptional performance.
