History: 1981-1990

1981
Phthalic anhydride capacity is expanded by the addition of a third reactor in Baton Rouge.

Jayflex 77  (C7 alcohol-based plasticizer) developed and introduced.

1981-1985
Development of COPPCO (Computerized Profit/Performance and Consulting), a proprietary computer-based reformulation tool. COPPCO predicts physical properties of finished products and reduces customer laboratory costs.

1982
The Rotterdam oxo alcohol plant begins production.

1983
Linear Jayflex plasticizers are developed and introduced in the U.S.

1984
Exxon Chemical implements statistical process control/quality concepts.

Jayflex UDP(USA) (undecyl dodecyl phthalate) (C11- C12 alcohol-based plasticizer) is developed and introduced.

1987
The quality improvement process continues to develop with the formation of the first external quality partnerships.

1988
Exxon Chemical acquires the Noroxo alcohol plant in Harnes, France.

The Rotterdam oxo alcohol plant, the Rotterdam plasticizers plant and the Fawley higher olefins plant obtain ISO 9002 registration.

1989
Construction of the phthalic anhydride plant in Rotterdam begins.

Higher olefins capabilities are expanded at Antwerp, Belgium and Fawley, UK.
