Applications
Packaging: Dehydrated Food and Beverages

Listed below are some of our films that have been used in typical packaging applications in different markets. Every application is different and the use of any packaging product should be rigorously tested before being used commercially. (See guidelines below.)

The market

The market for dehydrated foods and beverages covers a wide variety of products. These include dry mix, sauces, seasonings, cake mixes, instant potato, cereal flakes, baby foods, coffee, food drinks, tea and milk powder.
Some Euro 430m worth of flexible packaging was used in the sector in 2000. Increasing market competition, changing consumer lifestyles and the development of more health oriented products are having an impact on market growth, as well as on the choice of packaging materials. These must now offer greater convenience, better product protection and more shelf appeal.

Product characteristics: coffee

The coffee sector requires very-high-barrier multilayer laminate packaging. Packs for coffee beans also need special vents to allow the carbon dioxide produced by the beans to diffuse outwards through the packaging, without allowing oxygen to diffuse back into the pack. To protect the freshness of the product, laminates require a high oxygen barrier, excellent puncture resistance and good sealability.

Films currently under development are not mentioned below, but we are continuously developing new films tailored to specific applications and markets.  For more information on films currently under development in this area, please click on SALES & SUPPORT in the left side bar to find your nearest representative.
