Consumer Appeal and Added Value
The OPPack Awards external judging session was held in the regional headquarters of ExxonMobil Chemical Films Europe in Luxembourg on December 12th 2003. The independent expert jury decision reflected the growing trend for innovative packaging that adds value to a product and provides enhanced consumer appeal. The jury comprised five experts within the packaging industry: Mr Kim Norland from Design:Succes design agency based in Denmark; Mr Gilbert Bureau, Head of the ESIEC Packaging School in France; Mr Claudio Colombo, editor of Rassegna dell’Imballaggio based in Italy; Mr Nico de Kruijf, Head of the Packaging Research Department for TNO, based in the Netherlands; Mr Denis Eugene, Division R&D Manager of SICPA, based in France.
Gold Labelling Award The pack selected by the jury for the Gold Labelling Award was Ice Valley labelled in 50µ Label-Lyte Lithor LTG702 cut and stack film. Country: United Kingdom Segment: Mineral Water Converter: Printpack Europe and S&C Labels Enduser: Shepley Spring The jury remarked that “This water has a striking direct appeal which gives several positive characteristics and illusions. A tactile, embossed look matches the product – it looks like a glass bottle with an exclusive print – a no-label look”.
Gold OPPack Award The pack selected by the jury for the Gold OPPack Award was Touch’ Salade seasoning wrapped in 19µ Bicor™ MB 440 with polyethylene coextrusion. Country: France Segment: Condiments Converter: Deltasacs Enduser: Ducros The jury recompensed the pack for its absolute added value through an eye-catching, innovative look that stands out. They remarked that “it is amazing how such a simple technique can have such a striking impact and even though it is not genius, it is very different and sells its 5g product very well”.
Silver OPPack Award The pack selected by the jury for the Silver OPPack Award was Menu Vital Pet Food wrapped in 25µ Bicor™ MB 866 laminated to polyethylene. Country: Germany Segment: Pet Food Converter: Schur Flexible Enduser: Vitakraft-Werke The pack was chosen by the jury “for its tremendous improvement over the traditional cardboard box”. The jury considered it very innovative in its category through its reclosability feature, which keeps the aroma and extends the shelf life. “A dream for every kid, his/her mother and hopefully also for the pet”
Bronze OPPack Award The pack selected by the jury for the Bronze OPPack Award was Milano/Kägi Frettli wafers wrapped in 35 OPPalyte MU842 laminated to 20µ coex. Country: Switzerland Segment: Biscuits Converter: Amcor Schüpbach Enduser: Kägi Söhne The jury commented that the packaging showed “a very good print quality and replacement of paper / aluminium foil with an all polyolefin structure resulting in a more environmentally friendly pack”. The expert jury found the pack to be innovative in its “at-home consumption” category.
