Patent issued to ExxonMobil Chemical on Star-Branched Butyl Polymers.

1991
ExxonMobil Chemical and Monsanto form a joint venture called Advanced Elastomer Systems to produce and market DVAs (dynamically vulcanized alloys).

ExxonMobil Chemical commercializes first metallocene based polymers.

1992
Start-up of commercial plant at Baytown, Texas for the production of Exxpro Specialty Elastomers
  • Development of major new tire applications advances.

1995
ExxonMobil Chemical announces a capacity expansion of its joint venture EP (ethylene propylene) rubber plant in South Korea.
ExxonMobil Chemical announces application of metallocene catalyst technology to elastomers.


1996
Bimodal Vistalon EPDM grade slate sets new standards of performance in automotive bodysealing.


1997
Vistalon EPDM business announces a new, scaled-up metallocene elastomers pilot plant at the Baytown Polymers Center.

60th Anniversary of the invention and patenting of butyl rubber by ExxonMobil Chemical.


1998
ExxonMobil Chemical's research and development technology center is commissioned in Bangalore, India.
