They are economical and viable alternatives to chlorinated solvents (eg. methylene chloride, trichloroethylene, perchloroethylene), as they have no ozone-depleting potential and have comparatively high Occupational Exposure Limits. Their lower toxicity and reduced odour translate to greater worker comfort and health.
