Copper sticks of different sizes

Hydrocarbon fluids for mining applications

With more than 40 years of experience beginning in the copper mines of Chile, ExxonMobil Chemical has developed global expertise for choosing the right fluid to effectively extract valuable metals.

Escaid™ hydrocarbon fluids  are used as diluents for the solvent extraction of minerals including copper, nickel, cobalt, uranium and zinc. Formulators are able to take advantage of a product slate to create tailored extraction solutions.

The Escaid portfolio features grades with low viscosities, high flash points and low evaporation rates, to offer the right balance of good flow and phase separation with minimal diluent losses and reduced fire risk. Fluids with low aromatic content and high flash points also help enhance worker safety and meet stringent environmental requirements.

Compared to aromatic-containing kerosene grades, dearomatized Escaid fluids provide the following advantages:

  • High purity and product consistency
  • Narrower dispersion bands
  • Reduced diluent losses
  • Improved safety at high temperature conditions
  • Lower environmental toxicity and readily biodegradable (OECD 301F)
