Operations Integrity Management System (OIMS)

Introduced in 1992, ExxonMobil’s Operations Integrity Management System (OIMS) provides a globally robust, yet flexible, framework for managing safety, security, health and environmental risks. It is consistent with the intent and meets the requirements of ISO 14001, the environmental management systems standard, as certified by Lloyd's Register Quality Assurance.

OIMS measures progress, ensures management accountability for results and establishes common worldwide expectations for controlling operational integrity across our business. It also ensures community engagement through initiatives such as social and environmental impact assessments for new projects. And, it is designed to meet our corporate requirements for industry initiatives such as Responsible Care® and government regulations.

Requiring the involvement of our employees, the OIMS process continually evaluates and improves management systems and standards by sharing successful systems and best practices from across the businesses.

One example of a tool that is being used to implement OIMS is our Global Energy Management System (GEMS). It identifies and acts on energy saving opportunities in the Downstream and Chemical businesses.
