Hydraulic fracturing is helping operators to unlock vast amounts of cleaner-burning natural gas from shale rock. With Escaid™ PathFrac™ fluid, operators can meet their need for reliable hydraulic fracturing operations with a reduced environmental footprint.

Escaid PathFrac fluid has non-detectable1 levels of benzene, toluene, ethyl benzene and xylenes (BTEX), low total aromatic content (<0.02 wt%) and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) levels less than 0.001 wt%. Whether used as carrier fluid of suspension/slurry formulations, inverse emulsion of viscosifier or friction reducers, or as gelled fracturing fluid, Escaid PathFrac enables hydraulic fracturing operations with a reduced environmental impact, reduced friction and optimum rheology.

  • Increased commitment to improved operations with a small environmental footprint
    • Low environmental toxicity
    • Very low acute toxicity effects on marine or fresh water species
    • Readily biodegradable (per OECD 301F test methodology)
  • Improved safety
    • Lower risk of worker exposure to vapor
    • Lower skin irritation
    • Less risk of fire due to higher flash point
  • Low sub-chronic adverse effects; non-mutagenic
  • Facilitates operations in cold weather conditions due to low pour point (-39°C typically)
  • Is not classified as environmentally hazardous under the EU CLP2 or the GHS3 classification
  • Consistency and stability of fracturing formulations due to narrow boiling range

1Practical Quantitation Limits: benzene = 0.2 wppm, toluene = 0.3 wppm, ethylbenzene = 0.1 wppm, xylenes = 0.1 wppm (ExxonMobil test method)
2CLP: Classification, Labeling and Packaging regulations of the European Union
3GHS: Globally Harmonized System
